As the lion swallows the sun and from its maw drips gold, so too shall mere men be swallowed by nuclear fire, the weak burned away and the strong purified and made greater by its cleansing light.
That’s no lion, that’s Fenrir, the wolf who will swallow the sun comes Ragnarök
I appreciate you and your apparent interest in mythology, but everything you said was wrong.
Fenrir, along with Jormungand, are the children of Loki (dude was freaky and a shapeshifter; also got knocked up as a mare and gave birth to Odin’s horse, Sleipnir) and are involved with Ragnarok. Specifically, Jormungand will kill and be killed by Thor, while Fenrir will kill Odin.
The wolf that chases the sun is Hati. Theres confusion as to whether or not Hati has any relation to Fenrir since the same sources give conflicting accounts on that point.
And lastly.
THAT is a lion swallowing the sun. A visual metaphor used in alchemy to symbolize vitriol (that is, sulfuric acid) purifying matter and leaving behind gold, since sulfuric acid dissolves most materials but not gold.
Mind you the artist’s ORIGINAL intent may have been an image of Hati catching and devouring the sun, but this was what first came to mind for me. IMO the symbols look more alchemic than runic and the beast, its self, comes off more as lion than wolf, but I could also see it being a very stylized wolf.
I know that Fenrir is Loki’s child. All the information I had (Wikipedia, I know it’s quite often wrong or incomplete, from the subjects I study) said that Fenrir would swallow the sun, once he escaped his shackles. Do you have any free online sources, so I can look further into this (once I feel like it😂)?
